Free Registration
It is illegal for any UK based recruitment agency to charge an individual
to register. This is a free service.
Agencies make their money by finding teachers/support personnel
work and charging the client, in this case, schools.
The charges can either be a
daily rate which means the agency are then responsible for paying
you an agreed rate and deducting tax and National Insurance contributions
from your salary or where you are employed by the school an introduction
fee is charged.
Type of work
Day to day/short-term work
This offers freedom to work when and where you
wish. It can range from day to day supply at different schools or
one or two weeks work in one school, usually covering courses or
sickness. Day to day supply is an excellent
way to work in a variety of schools and can give you a good insight
into how UK schools are run.
This type of work can also be very last minute i.e.
on the day required or it may be pre-booked through in-service training
days, planned leave and SATs cover. It would suit an individual who
wishes to have flexibility and variety in their working experience.

Long term work
Long term positions require the teacher/support assistant to take
on the complete responsibilities of a full-time classroom teacher/support
assistant. You will become involved in the school community and
regarded as a regular member of staff. For teachers other requirements
will include attending parents evenings, planning, assessment, attending
staff meetings, liaising with educational specialists and being
involved in professional development.
This offers security of pay and the opportunity to get to know
the schools and classes. You do need to commit for the period of
the vacancy.
Permanent Positions
These positions are offered where a school is looking for a permanent
member of staff. They require the individual to take on the complete
responsibilities of a full-time employee.
You will become involved in the school community and regarded as
a regular member of staff. Again for teachers other requirements
will include attending parents evenings, planning, assessment, attending
staff meetings, liaising with educational specialists and being
involved in professional development. The salary for this position
will be negotiated with the school.
