Planning and organising your trip
Securing accommodation
To assist
securing accommodation when you arrive in the UK please obtain references from your previous landlords.
Please
bring with you your last 3 months of bank statements and a bank credit reference to assist you set up an account in the UK and secure accommodation.
Driving
in the UK
Before you leave home you should apply for an International Driver's Licence from your local motorist organisation. Also request a no claims letter from your car insurance company before you leave to assist with car insurance in the UK.
Photocopy all documentation
Make sure that you take copies of all documentation including passport, visa, flight tickets, insurance documents, credit cards. Keep a copy safe with someone at home as well as yourself in case of emergencies.
Travel insurance
Please
ensure you have appropriate travel insurance which will cover you for worldwide travel and work whilst overseas.
Bank account
It is advisable to open a bank account in the UK when you arrive. You will be required to take your passport, proof of employment (we are able to issue you this in the UK) and proof of address in the UK.
National Insurance number
It is easy to set up a National Insurance number in the UK and this is a free service. You will be given a temporary number once you start work and after 4-6 weeks will need to make an appointment with your local DHSS office to arrange for your permanent number.
