As an employee in the UK you can earn up to £4,615
in each financial year before tax bands are applicable. Any earnings
above £4,615 will be liable to income tax. The bands are listed
below, for example, the first £1,920 will be liable to 10%
tax deduction.
Annual Tax Bands
10% up to £1,960
22% from £1,961 to £30,500
40% over £30,501
The bandings may change at the start of each financial
year, which begins on 6 April.
Personal allowance is usually allocated throughout
the year on a weekly/monthly basis depending on method of payment.
This is to ensure that an equal proportion of the tax liability
is collected throughout the year instead of a lump sum being collected
at end of the year.
