Transport/travel

Rail - Getting to Newcastle and Gateshead by rail is easy and fast
Director services operate from most cities in Britain, served by the Great North Eastern Railways, Virgin Cross Country and Regional Railways. Direct Metro (underground) link between Gateshead and Newcastle telephone + 44 (0)845 748 4950.

Road - Easy access by A1 (north and south) and by A69 (west). There is ample parking for shopping, sightseeing or visiting attractions.

Accommodation North East

Youth Hostels offer immediate and short term beds for the night and can be found very near the centre of Newcastle. For the official youth hostels you must be a member but you can usually join when you turn up. Meals are cheap and there is usually free use of the kitchen. Newspapers to buy are the Journal (Homemaker on Saturdays) The Evening Chronicle on Tuesdays will have a selection of properties to rent

YWCAs usually have permanent resident from September to June but vacancies sometimes arise

Letting agents offer a variety of homes to rent with a usual minimum stay of one month starting around £300 for a one bedroom flat. These can come furnished or unfurnished (expect to pay more for furnished properties). Most will require references from previous landlords, proof of earnings and at least one months deposit, a damage deposit and expect to pay a percentage of the total handling fee.
