Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Although you will be regarded as a qualified teacher
in your home country, you are not when you arrive in the UK. You
are regarded as an Instructor, even though you will be expected
to perform the tasks and responsibilities of a qualified teacher.
Elite Education regard you as a qualified teacher for the purposes
of salary however. If you wish to become a recognised qualified
teacher in the UK you need to follow the OTT (Overseas Teacher Training
programme). Please contact our International Department for further
information.
Peaks and Troughs
Please check out
details on school term dates if you are unsure of holiday periods
for teaching in the UK.
Early Childhood and Primary teachers are in demand
constantly throughout the year, however, September is probably one
of the quietest months for supply since the 6 weeks break leads
to few cases of last minute sickness.
The demand for secondary supply teachers is low during the summer
term mid June/July.
From mid July all schools close for a 6 week summer
holiday.

Long term bookings
We highly recommend that you look to secure a long
term placement rather than day to day supply, unless you specifically
wish to carry out day to day supply. The main reason for this is
that with a long term position, work is guaranteed for the 5 days
per week, for the whole length of the contract. Whereas with day
to day supply you rely on a strong need from schools and although
there is a very healthy demand for day to day teachers work is not
of a guaranteed nature and can also be very last minute.
Long term placements can be found for you before you leave your
country of origin. This is subject to certain immigration rights,
for example, you should not secure a long term placement on a working
holiday visa. Elite Education specialize in providing work permits
so finding work is never a problem.
Dress Code
You will need to dress in a professional manner - we advise you
to work in smart clothes until you ascertain the dress code for
that particular school. We recommend a collar and tie for men and
skirt or trousers for women, with the exception of PE teachers.
Leggings, jeans and trainers are not acceptable standards of dress
in any school.
Body piercing although fashionable is not regarded
as professional within schools, please remove any facial piercing,
with the exception of ears, before arriving at school.
