Working Holiday Visa
This is the most popular route. You are entitled to
a working holiday visa if you are a Commonwealth citizen unless
you have a British/EU passport or ancestry visa and provided you
have not yet reached your 31st birthday. You are not automatically
entitled to a visa, your application needs to be approved. Please
note that the terms of a working holiday visa state:
- Applicants aged between 17 and 30 may apply. Applications must be
received in the British High Commission before the applicant's 31st
birthday.
- You must be intending to take a holiday in the UK but during your stay and
you are permitted to take employment that is incidental to your holiday.
- You must be intending to leave the UK at the end of your stay. The
maximum permitted stay for the working holiday maker is 2 years. This runs
continuously from the date the visa is issued, whether you are there or
not.
- You must provide evidence that you have sufficient funds for your partial
support and your onward/return travel.

You must declare any criminal convictions you have at the time you make
your application for the Working Holiday Visa.

If you are married, your spouse must be intending to take a working
holiday with you and you must both meet the above requirements.

If you have a child or children accompanying you to the UK as a working
holiday maker you and your child/children must leave the UK before their 5th
birthday.

Dual Nationality
Anyone with dual nationality in the UK or another
European Union country is automatically entitled to work in the
UK. Please check with the British
High Commission.

Ancestry Visa
If you have a British grandparent you are entitled
to claim patriality and therefore have the right to work in the
UK for up to four years with no restrictions. Application should
be made to the
British High Commission.

Right of Abode
If you or one of your parents was born in the UK you
may apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode.
If granted the Certificate remains valid for the life of your passport
and entitles you to live and work in the UK indefinitely. Please
contact the British
High Commission.

Spouses
If you are married to a British national you
may be entitled to work in the UK. Likewise, if you are accompanying
a spouse who has dual nationality or patriality you may also be
entitled to work in the UK. Please check with the British
High Commission.

Work Permits
If you do not meet the above criteria then you
will be required to obtain a work permit. You would need to secure
employment with a school for a minimum of one term. Elite Education
